Bobby Kaplan has been coaching elementary, middle and high school students, both boys and girls, for over forty years.

His teams have played in and won numerous championships before scheduled New York Knick games at the famous Madison Square Garden arena and before New Jersey Net games at the renowned  Continental Arena (now the Izod Center).

Coach K, as he is affectionately known,

also owned and directed the Israel Basketball Academy (IBA) summer camp—both in Israel and in New York State for thirteen years.  Bobby has coached more than twelve hundred games, played high school and college ball, and continues to coach both boys’ and girls’ varsity high school teams.

Coach Kaplan has recently published his second book, “HOOPSTERS”, which is up for three national children’s book awards. “HOOPSTERS: Episode 1 Don’t be a Bully” is the first in a planned series of books to help kids deal with contemporary situations.

“HOOPSTERS” utilizes cartoon-like characters within a sports venue to convey its message. The central theme is to promote sound values for children while providing helpful coping skills when dealing with life’s everyday challenges and conflicts. The vivid, adorable animated Hoops and his friends communicate to the reader in simple easy-to-read, script-like style text.

“Don’t be a Bully” informs, defines, and offers solutions to a most serious problem facing today’s society and, especially our youth. The background is sports but the issue is universal.

Both books can be ordered through their respective web sites (bballbasics.net,

hoopstersbooks.com) or through Amazon. Bobby Kaplan can be contacted at
